Midfield ace Scougall impressing boss Wright

-

ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright is “delighted” with the form shown by midfield man Stefan Scougall.

The former Livingston midfield player was snapped up recently after spending time with Sheffield United.

Tommy had been keen to bring the player to McDarmid Park for some time and he feels Stefan can become a really big player for Saints.

“He looked really sharp today,” said the Saints team boss after his club had beaten Hartlepool 1-0 in a McDiarmid Park friendly.

“We’ve eased him in and I’m pleased with this progress.

“He proved again how good he is on and off the ball.”

Steven MacLean netted the only goal in the 11th minute after being set up by trialist Romain Habran.

The Frenchman is on trial with Saints and Tommy may take time in making up his mind as to whether or not he wants to add the Paris St Germain youngster to his squad.

The Saints boss intimated he wants to bring in two more players but insists he is looking for quality and is not seeking to bring in players for the sake of it.

One of the promising Saints young players, central defender Liam Gordon, was given 90 minutes against Hartlepool.

Tommy added: “We have good young players who have come in to the first team and done a good job.”

Gordon, Ally Gilchrist, Aaron Comrie and Euan O’Reilly have already featured for the top team this season.

Saints have another friendly, away to East Fife on Saturday (noon).

Saints U/20s beat Penicuik 4-0 away (Docherty 2, 1 pen., Ballantyne, Struthers).
