Scott is superb again in Sheffield

-

AFTER his recordbreaking medal haul at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Nassau, Bahamas, which saw him return as Scotland’s most decorated athlete in the history of these Games, Perth City Swim Club’s Scott McLay was in the medals again at the British Summer Meet in Sheffield last night.

He won silver in the 100 metres freestyle.

The 18-year-old, who has competed with the club since the age of seven, was full of praise for the support he has received.

Scott said: “It’s been a fantastic summer of racing and it’s been a real honour to swim for both GB and Scotland.

“Competing with Team Scotland in the Bahamas was an amazing experience.

“I thank everyone for their support, it has meant a lot.

“It’s a team effort and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my club, my coach Ann Dickson, and everyone in the Tayside and Fife Institute of Sport.”

Also competing in Sheffield this week, Luke Mitchell and Jack Muncey represent the next generation of Perth City swimmers hungry for success.

The season has been a tough one for Luke, who was injured just a few weeks before the Scottish Open Meet in June.

However, he pulled back to within striking distance of the personal best time he set at the Scottish Age Group Championships in the 50 metres breaststroke in England yesterday.

Jack broke the Scottish 13 years age group record in the 200 metres backstroke at the Scottish Open Championships in June and is competing at his first British meet this week.

He has continued to build on his outstanding performance gains in 2017, setting new personal best times in the 50 and 100 metres backstroke to reach the finals of both events in Sheffield.
