Flower show final countdown
THE long-running annual Carnoustie Flower Show will take place i n t he town’s leisure centre on F r i d ay a n d S a t u rd ay, August 18 and 19.
A spokesman said: “Despite the very cold and wet spring and summer months so far, we are now actively making final arrangements f or t his year’s show which will hopefully again be a floral extravaganza in Carnoustie Leisure Centre.
“Exhibitors will be displaying entries in competitive classes for cut flowers, pot plants, vegetables, fruit, floral art, preserves, baking, handcrafts, photography and children’s section.
“The show’s top horticultural awards this year are the prestigious Royal Hor ticultural Society’s Banksian Medal which is awarded to the exhibitor who wins the most prize money in the horticultural section and the society’s rose bowl which this year will be awarded to the most outstanding exhibit in the horticultural classes.
“This year a trophy in memory of Provost Helen Oswald has been donated by her husband Ed.
“The society has also introduced for the first time a new competition for schools and youth organisations for which the winners will receive the Carnoustie Flower Show Youth Challenge Shield which has been sponsored by Carnoustie Community Council.
“The competition is for a display with a wizard and witches theme.
“There are more than 230 competitive classes with more than £500 in prize money and 30 trophies and medals to be awarded.”
