Shop’s way to profiteer from tourists

-

I READ in the Tele Eating Out pages recently that someone had been charged £1.80 for a cola.

Well, I can beat that. Last week we stopped at a large Perthshire establishment for a break.

Sitting down after using the self-service food counter, I checked my receipt.

I’d been prepared for the £4.50 for a bowl of soup and the £3.50 for the sandwich packet.

But the cost of a small bottle of cola left me feeling stung as there hadn’t been a price ticket when I picked it up — I had been charged £2.75!

I noted later the other till did display the cost, but this hadn’t been visible due to people queuing.

I feel sorry for anyone with two or three children having to pay these sort of prices when taking the family for a day out.

We ate what we had and nothing else was purchased.

I felt the items in the shop were overpriced too, so we left to continue with our sightseeing journey.

But it does make me wonder just how firms like this can justify their prices, even allowing for transport costs.

Some grocery stores in the area were able to sell two bottles of the same product for only £1.50. It leads me to believe some places are profi

teering from the tourist.
