I CAN’T WAIT TO GET STARTED SAYS MAY

-

“IT’S a new chapter and I can’t wait to get started,” said former St Johnstone striker Stevie May after penning a four-year deal with Aberdeen.

The 24-year-old moved from Saints to Sheffield Wednesday three years ago for £800,000 and netted seven times in 39 appearances for them.

He scored once i n 12 games for Preston following his £800,000 transfer there but a serious knee injury put him out of football for 18 months.

He has joined the Dons for an undisclosed fee but it is believed to be £300,000.

The Newburgh l ad, a former pupil of Cupar’s Bell Baxter High School, began playing football aged 10 and came right the way through the St Johnstone youth system making his top-team debut aged 16 as a substitute against Airdrie United. He scored in that game and went on to net regularly for Saints as well as for Alloa and Hamilton in loan spells there.

He is now reunited with Derek McInnes, the Aberdeen manager.

It was Derek, then the Perth team boss, who gave him his Saints debut and Stevie has since said: “Derek McInnes gave me my first taste of first team football.

“He gave my SPL debut at 16. He really believed in me.

“He taught me how important it was to keep possession when I had the ball and make t he opposition work to get it back.”
