Boxer Chris is ‘looking sharp’

DUNDEE Amateur Boxing Club are back in training for the new season with supremo Greg Menzies reporting a decent number coming along.

The club are not against travelling far and wide to shows with a trip to Whithorn in south-west Scotland one of their ports of call and the likelihood is their colours will again be seen at shows up and down the country.

Greg has high hopes of his squad doing well again this season.

He is hoping a couple of Polish youngsters show promise and he added: “Chris McComiskie and Malcolm Mitchell are among the others who have been doing well in training.”

Greg went on: “Chris will be competing at welterweig­ht and will be aimed at the Intermedia­te section. Hopefully, he may also box in the Open class.

“He’s a good prospect who has looked sharp in training having kept his fitness up.”

ATHLETICS

Strathtay Harrier Freya Howgate (13) performed with distinctio­n at the Godiva Classic in Coventry.

T37 classifica­tion athlete Freya had a great day to continue her fantastic season at this UK disability competitio­n where she was up against some of the best English and Welsh athletes.

Freya achieved two personal best performanc­es, in the discus and shot put, and clocked 18.65 seconds in her 100 metres.
