Ando has belief in young striker

-

ST JOHNSTONE skipper Steven Anderson believes teenage striker Callum Hendry has a great future in the game.

The son of former Scotland captain Colin Hendry arrived at Saints a few months ago after being released by Blackburn.

His career has been interrupted by a serious injury but he is now fully fit and the McDiarmid Park side look set to reap the dividends.

Anderson is one of Scotland’s most experienced defenders and so is well qualified to speak about attackers.

And, as he watches young Hendry up close in training, he is well impressed by what he sees.

“Callum has a massive future,” said Ando, who is Saints’ record appearance holder. “He will only get better.

“You can play the ball up to him and he gets i n behind defenders.

“He has also proved he is well capable of scoring goals.

“Callum will continue to score and he i s a real handful, a very strong and talented lad.”

Anderson, Hendry and Michael O’Halloran all played their parts in Saints’ 4-1 home success over Motherwell, a result which catapulted the Perth men to the top of the Premiership.

O’Halloran has been on fire since returning t o Saints on loan from Rangers.

He has been playing well and scored twice against Motherwell to add to his goal the previous Saturday against Kilmarnock.

Ando commented: “We know what he can give us and, having been with us before, Michael knows the environment.

“Michael was a big player for us before — and can be so again.”

ST JOHNSTONE U/20 lost 1-0 to their Aberdeen counterparts in the Irn-Bru Cup at Glebe Park.
