Massive weekend of cricket set for Tayside

- By EXTRA COVER

IT’S a huge weekend for cricket lovers in Tayside.

Arbroath’s title challenge in the Eastern Premier Division is set to mean a cracking game against Glenrothes at Lochlands tomorrow.

Then there’s the Citylets Scottish Cup Final at Mckay’s Forthill in Broughty Ferry on Sunday. This is the first time the final has been played there.

Although there is no local interest in the final, the two finalists Watsonians and Carlton, will provide an excellent spectacle with the sides evenly matched.

Arbroath’s loss to Grange last Saturday saw the gap at the top between the sides reduced to only 1%, though the Lichties still remain in pole position.

They will be sorely tested, however, when in-form Glenrothes visit as Saffy Sharif and Fred Gosse are performing well for the Fifers.

More will be needed from the Arbroath batting line-up if they are to pull off a vital win.

Brendan Ford and Ross McLean will be crucial to their winning hopes alongside the Burnett brothers Calvin and Fraser.

Grange should be too strong for a struggling Aberdeenshire who visit Portgower Place, although Chris Venske and Lionel Ngoepe are very dangerous performers.

They could swing the match in the Dons’ favour if they can get in about the runs.

Forfarshire are back to full strength when they travel to Falkland.

Matt Parker returns to bolster the Forfarshire batting line-up while Liam Sweeney is also back with his spin. TOMORROW’S FIXTURES

?? ?? Left — Liam Sweeney is back in the Forfarshire line-up against Falkland. Right — Calvin Burnett will be a crucial player for Arbroath.
