Brinster back in Dundee

- By STEVE TAyLOR

ICE hockey returns to Dundee Ice Arena this weekend with a host of legends on display.

Tomorrow evening, a star-studded charity match between Sheriffs Ice Hockey Club and a Scottish Alumni will help raise money for CHAS and the StopConcussions foundation (f/o 6.30pm).

Among the big names taking part is former Dundee Rockets player Chris Brinster (pictured).

The 59-year-old will pull on the travelling team’s jersey along with former NHLers and ex-GB centre Steve Moria amongst others.

Brinster will this time line up against former Dundee team-mates Jock McGuff, Scott Hudson and brothers Mark and Grant Slater in the Scottish ranks.

The American has rarely been back to the UK since quitting the game in 1987 but still keeps in touch with a few friends in Dundee.

McGuff said of his old team-mate’s decision to revisit the city: “I spoke to Chris a few months ago when we first got word of this game and that a lot of our old team would be there.

“He was up for it right away. So much so, he’s done it all off his own back!”

Also icing for the Scots are former Dundee Stars John Dolan, Sam McCluskey and Tristan Harper along with the likes of Fife’s Dean Edmiston and John Haig and Ayr’s John Kidd.

ON Sunday evening at the DIA, hockey players can get the chance to try out all the latest kit on the ice (for free) during the Bauer Experience event. Ice Topps Sports will also have offers on a range of equipment in the shop. To book a place on the ice, call 01382 858560 or email sales@icetopp sports.co.uk

Also on Sunday, Dundee Comets have a “friendly” in Fife against Kestrels (f/o 6pm).
