Motorcyclist dies in collision with car on A92

-

A 47-YEAR-OLD man died in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, last night after his motorcycle collided with a car on the A92 in Angus.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, just north of Inverkeilor, just before 6pm.

Police and the ambulance service, including an air ambulance, attended and the road was closed in both directions following the collision.

The driver of the car and the motorcyclist were taken to Ninewells, where the motorcyclist died.

The motorist was treated for minor injuries.

Police are not releasing the identity of the dead man until his next of kin have been informed.

A motorist caught on the closed-off road described seeing police checking debris and speaking to the occupants of cars close to the accident scene.

Police issued an appeal for witnesses to call 101 if they have any information. The stretch of road on which the crash occurred is known locally as dangerous, with several collisions occurring in the area over the years.

Meanwhile, three people were taken to hospital yesterday following a collision in Highland Perthshire that caused chaos on the A9.

The incident involved two cars — one towing a caravan — and took place near Pitlochry shortly after 1pm.

It is thought one of the vehicles may have left a layby moments before the collision.

The accident brought traffic travelling i n both directions to a standstill for more than an hour.

Lengthy diversions were put in place as emergency services worked at t he scene and investigations took place.

Police Scotland said none of the three casualties had life-threatening injuries.
