- BY JUNICUS

BROUGHTY Athletic survived a late scare to pick up three Super League points against Jeanfield.

The Fed took the lead in 32 minutes through a Paul McLellan penalty after Derryn Kesson was pulled down.

Kesson got on the scoresheet himself four minutes into the second half when his looping cross found the net.

It looked like the hosts would hold out for a well-earned win but, with two minutes to go, Swifts pulled one back when Fraser Mills stabbed home from close range.

There was further drama in injury time when the Perth side were awarded a penalty but, much to the relief of the Ferry side, Tony Holt’s effort hit the post.

Lochee United’s unbeaten run was ended in emphatic fashion when they lost 5-1 at home to Linlithgow Rose.

The Lothian visitors made t heir intentions clear from the start as they pressed the Bluebells defence and took the lead in 25 minutes through a headed goal from Aiden Malone.

They then doubled their advantage in 32 minutes when Blair Batchelor netted from a tight angle.

The killer blow for George Shields’ side came just on the half-time whistle when Gary Thom headed in a third.

Lochee made more of a game of it in the second half but they gifted the visitors a fourth in 69 minutes when an attempted passback by Scott Webster ended up in his own net.

The Bluebells’ consolation goal came a minute later when a corner was headed in by Greg Kirk.

However, Rose struck again in 75 minutes when Owen Donald slid home a cross from Malone.

Carnoustie’s 2-1 win at Newtongrange made it three wins in seven days.

Ryan Dignan proved to be the main man for the Gowfers, scoring both goals.

Forfar West End suffered their third successive home defeat, going down to 2-1 to Dundonald Bluebell. Barry Sibanda put the visitors ahead after 15 minutes but Darren Scott equalised on 34 minutes.

However, Calum Smith hit the Fifers’ winner midway through the second half.
