Houston drags his charges in for Sunday session

-

PETER Houston cancelled his Falkirk players’ day off after slamming their performance during Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Dunfermline.

The Bairns slumped at home to their local rivals, with Declan McManus’ strike and a brace from Joe Cardle securing the Pars’ win.

Falkirk were 2-0 down when Craig Sibbald and Lee Miller were sent off before Tom Taiwo cut the deficit.

But Houston reckons his team worked harder with nine men than they did with their full compliment.

He said: “We have players in there who talk a good game but talk is cheap.

“We were as soft as putty. Dunfermline were able to get through the centre of our defence so easily. It was like a knife through butter. It’s not good enough.

“Before the game I felt they were up for it, but we weren’t up for it until we went down to nine men. We worked harder when we had nine men.

“So action has to be taken. Days off will be cancelled, we will look through the video again and we will work and work and work until we get it right.”

Victory moves Dunfermline up to second spot two points behind Dundee United.

Queen of the South also moved up thanks to Callum Fordyce’s winner in their 1-0 triumph over Dumbarton, while 10-man St Mirren got back to winning ways after last weekend’s defeat to Renfrewshire rivals Morton by beating Livingston 3-1.

Inverness’ frustrating start to the season continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Morton.

Caley Thistle remain bottom of the Championship table.
