Exhibition showcasing comics masters

-

A NEW cohort of creative heroes are showcasing their work at this year’s University of Dundee Masters Show, which is running until the end of the week.

Students from the MDes Comics and Graphic Novels course are exhibiting at the popular event at the university for the first time.

There is a wide variety of work on display, including comics about historical figures, trauma, the human spirit, science fiction and time travel.

The MDes Comics and Graphic Novels course has proved attractive both to students straight from their undergraduate degree and to already-established comic book creators.

This year, James O’Ready has been exhibiting his work to the public.

His credits include the Titan Comics Death Sentence series, and he has also written for Marvel Comics.

Visitors to the exhibition have the chance to experience a new experimental physical 3D comic, which has been designed by student Zu Dominiak.

There are also examples of digital comics, and a wide range of titles and genres providing something for everyone.

Course director Phillip Vaughan said: “I was asked to develop the MDes course in order to give comics students a more practical outcome to their studies — and their output has demonstrated their development.

“We have seven students exhibiting this year and we are excited to let the public see the work we do on the course.”

The University of Masters Show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design runs until Sunday.

The exhibition is open from 10am8pm on weekdays and from 10am-4pm at weekends.
