New gaffer McAulay’s big plans for Broughty
BROUGHTY United U/16 are starting afresh under new manager Blaine McAulay following the departure of previous dugout duo Brian Gordon and John Ross.
Both Gordon and Ross decided to take a change of tact at the end of last season due to their kids playing for new teams.
Previously a coach with the club, McAulay has guided United to a 4-2 friendly win over Inveraray outfit Colony Colts since taking charge.
He is happy with how his side is shaping up and is now looking forward to competitive action kicking off.
Broughty travel away to Forfar for t heir season opener on Sunday.
“I’m really happy, we’re playing well and things are shaping up nicely,” he said.
“We finished mid-table last year but we were drifting towards the bottom a bit.
“So we’ve got to do better. We’ve a couple of new players this year.
“We reached the cup final last year and the least we want to do is emulate that.”
With players at this level looking to make the step up to a more physical game, McAulay is ready to use his experience of playing in the juniors to help out his lads.
He said: “We want to coach the guys to learn how to play football more.
“I played a lot of junior football myself and moving up from youth football is a difficult change.”
Meanwhile, Maryfield U/13 have made a blistering start to both their league and cup campaigns.
Jamie Richardson netted four in their opening league game as Maryfield trounced St Andrews Colts 10-1.
A Dylan Anderson double and goals from Sol Campbell, Sam Stewart, Corey Finnie and Sonny Meachan sealed the win.
Maryfield followed that up with a 9-1 victory over Monifieth in the Diamond Jubilee Cup Section B.
Richardson, Anderson, Campbell, Stewart and Finnie all found the net again, with Kristian Gibson, Myles Reid, Dilon Gunrig and Kyle Johnston also getting in on the act.
Maryfield continue their cup campaign against Broughty Pumas on Sunday.
