Tough task but Lichties hope to be the champs

- BY EXTRA COVER

ARBROATH could be crowned champions of the Cricket Scotland Eastern Premier Division tomorrow.

However, they need to hold their nerve away to Carlton, a side who were crowned Scottish Cup champions last Sunday in a thrilling win over Watsonians.

Just how much the Edinburgh side will have left in the tank after their shock win will remain to be seen but Arbroath will face a tough task.

They will also be keeping an eye out on how other challengers Heriot’s are doing against Aberdeenshire.

Marc Petrie’s Lichties have done remarkably well considering their availability problems all season. However, they will be at full strength for the game at Goldenacre.

Heriot’s have home advantage over an unpredictable Aberdeenshire, who turned over Grange last weekend to end their title challenge.

With Marc Watt and Peter Ross in good form, they’re hopeful of recording the required win while watching what is going on along the road at Carlton.

Forfarshire finish their league season with a home game against SMRH.

However, they also have a chance to win silverware on Sunday when they play in the delayed Murgitroyd 20/20 competition in Glasgow.

Umair Mohammed’s side suffered a poor start to the season but picked up to finish mid-table and will see the 20/20 competition as a chance to finish on a high with Liam Sweeney and Chris Greaves in good form.

The final two games in the division see Glenrothes at home to Grange and Watsonians at home to Falkland.

In the Western Premier, the title race between Prestwick and Ferguslie will go to the final day. Prestwick should be too good for East Kilbride while Ferguslie face a tough task at home to Uddingston.
