Minister launches new careeers service at D&A
MINISTER for employability and training, Jamie Hepburn, was launching Future Talent at D&A today.
The wrap-around careers management service, the first to be launched by a further education college in Scotland, supports school pupils, college students and the unemployed with advice, guidance and practical help to inform and progress their career.
At the centre is the career coach tool — an online service which enables potential learners to identify their ideal career through an assessment quiz, review local employment market data, view “live” job vacancies and link with college courses.
As well as careers guidance, the college offers practical advice on CV building, application forms and personal statements plus mock interviews.
This exciting, new initiative was created in response to Education Scotland’s 2016 paper “The Development of Learner Employability in Scotland’s Colleges”, which identified key areas for development including career management skills and strategies to increase learners’ knowledge of the workplace.
D&A, supported by Fairways, offers a collection of products, services and activities which enables businesses to recruit, retain and grow their future workforce and develop the employability and enterprise skills of all learners.
Mr Hepburn said: “D&A College’s new careers management service is a fantastic resource which will help give students the confidence and practical advice they need.
“This builds on the college’s existing work with the local Developing the Young Workforce groups which is working with employers in the area to identify skills gaps and help them meet their future workforce needs.”
