Dundee opticians raided by thieves
Staff at Specsavers i n the city’s Murraygate arrived at work to discover raiders had smashed through the glass door of the shop.
Blood was visible in the doorway, suggesting whoever broke into the premises injured themselves while doing so.
Staff members were kept waiting outside the store until CID investigations could begin.
It is not known what was taken in the raid, believed to have happened around 11pm yesterday.
Dispensing director at the city centre store Tony Caffrey today told the Tele that the first they knew about the breakin was at 7.30am.
Mr Caffrey said: “A member of staff arrived first thing to find the front door completely boarded up. “It would appear it was smashed in the break-in, which we have been told happened at 11pm yesterday.
“We do not yet know what has been taken from the shop.
“Police on the scene asked us to remain outside until scenes of crime officers arrived.
“We will then do a walk around in the shop to try to discover exactly what has been taken.”
Mr Caffrey said that the shop would be operating under emergency procedures today and urged customers with nonessential appointments to stay away until tomorrow while investigations by police are carried out.
Mr Caffrey added: “We are currently contacting patients who have appointments booked for today.
“But we are asking, if it isn’t essential, can customers please stay away until tomorrow.
“We are working with the police, who have done a great job.
“They took control of the incident last night and had the door boarded up following the incident.”
Police Scotland was approached by the Tele for comment but could not be reached at the time of going to press.
