Unrealistic to say Brexit not a material change
I’VE been enjoying the verbal jousting via the letters page from people on both sides of the referendum debate.
The letter from Proud Scot sounded as if it was lifted straight out of the unionist playbook unfortunately.
“I wish the SNP would accept and respect our referendum result” is a particular favourite of No voters. The SNP certainly did, of course, although they shouldn’t be confused with the wider independence movement.
This acceptance, however, was subject to there being no material changes in future that could affect Scotland.
It would be unrealistic to suggest Brexit is not a material change, particularly given that a No vote was meant to protect our place in Europe.
I also think the SNP are not the ones constantly bleating on about another referendum.
Other political parties contested council elections on a “No to a second referendum” platform when they should have been about bin collections, street cleaning and every other local service!
I can’t help but be sympathetic to the SNP as they have finally provided opposition to the impotent Labour and Tory parties in Scotland.
If nothing else, Scottish politics is finally interesting again.
Prouder Scot.
