Gowfers continue fine league form

CARNOUSTIE made it four victories in a row with a fairly comfortabl­e 3-1 Super League win over visiting Camelon.

The Gowfers took the lead thanks to a Ewan Buggins strike after five minutes and Pat Martin doubled their advantage in 29 minutes.

Sam Simpson put the game beyond Camelon when he converted a second-half penalty, although the visitors did pull one back through Jordan Herron.

Lochee United were denied a famous victory at Bonnyrigg after fighting back from three goals down to take the lead.

The hosts took the lead in 10 minutes through a fine finish from Andy Kidd.

Jonathan Brown doubled the home advantage in 25 minutes and, two minutes later, it got even worse for George Shields’ side when Kidd scored his second of the day from a penalty.

However, the game was transforme­d in the second half after Dougie Cameron pulled one back from a free-kick in 52 minutes then Bryan Deasley struck two minutes l ater. It was game on with 15 minutes to go when Deasley knocked in a penalty to tie things up.

The home side t hen had Wayne McIntosh sent off and the Bluebells made them pay when Paddy Deane forced home after an Aaron Whitehead shot hit the bar. But the drama was far from over. In the closing minutes, Lochee keeper Mark Stewart was sent off and, from the resultant free-kick, Lee Currie saved the home side when he fired in the equaliser.

An under-strength Broughty Athletic side slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Dundonald and, to round off an unhappy afternoon, they had Ryan Blair sent off late on.

Jeanfield’s 3-1 defeat enabled visitors Newtongran­ge to leapfrog them in the table.

Steven Scott gave Star the lead after 18 minutes but, six minutes later, Ritchie Donavan scored Swifts’ leveller.

Steven Mellon’s early second-half goal saw Nitten regain the lead with Dale O’Hara‘s penalty conversion seven minutes from time sealing a comfortabl­e win.

Forfar West End were left to rue missed chances as they lost 1-0 at Linlithgow.
