Shaka seals dream debut with winner

-

A LATE fightback from Downfield saw them snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Glenrothes.

The Spiders took the lead through a Paul Blackwood header in 18 minutes but the Glens hit back with a penalty converted by Sean Simpson in 27 minutes.

The Fifers then added two more through Jamie Leslie in 57 minutes and Conor Schiavone in 76 minutes.

But the home side turned the match on its head in the last 10 minutes.

A cracking drive from Phil Hagan pulled one back in 82 minutes then, four minutes later, the former Lochee United striker struck again.

And, a minute into injury time, new signing Shaka Roy, who was signed from Broughty Athletic, made it a dream debut when he hammered in the winner.

The Spiders have also signed Jordan Gardiner.

Tayport had a day to forget at The Canniepairt as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat from Fauldhouse, a late Marc Ogg penalty counting for the hosts.

St Andrews run of four straight wins was halted by 10-man Musselburgh, who were 3-0 winners.

In the battle of last season’s promoted pair, Thornton Hibs were worthy 2-0 winners over a disappointing Kirrie Thistle at Westview.

RESULT of the week — BLAIRGOWRIE’S 7-2 demolition of previously unbeaten East Craigie gets the nod.
