Saints boss Wright heaps praise on his players

-

ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright is “very proud of his players for a great performance against Celtic”.

The Perth men drew 1-1 at Parkhead after Calum McGregor’s 81st-minute strike levelled the Saints goal from Steven MacLean in 39 minutes.

“I’m pleased with the showing and the result as we deserved something out of the game,” he said.

“Our fitness stood up well and Alan Mannus made good saves.

“We had a great chance to make it 2-0 and Denny Johnstone came close to scoring when it was 1-1.

“I thought Steven MacLean was offside when he scored our goal and so did he as he said at half-time he was messing about when he put the ball in the net.”

However, the striker wasn’t offside and the goal stood.

Murray Davidson suffered a bad head knock in an accidental clash with team-mate Aaron Comrie in the first minute and, after six minutes of on-pitch treatment, he was taken off on a stretcher.

“Murray regained consciousness as he was being stretchered away. He has a sore head and I think one or two of his teeth are embedded in Aaron’s head. The medical teams of both clubs did extremely well for Murray.”

With no game this weekend due to the international break, Murray has a fortnight to recover before Hibs are met at McDiarmid Park.

Meanwhile, Keith Watson has joined English National League side Hartlepool United on loan until January. He played in Saturday’s 2-0 home loss against Fylde.

Keith played six competitive matches under Tommy Wright last season and scored one goal.
