Brave Lily wins World Championship dance title

LILY Douglas, the nine-year-old Perth youngster battling an aggressive form of cancer, has won a world title while competing with the Fair City’s JGN Dance Attic at the United Dance Organisation World Street Championships in Glasgow’s SSE.

Along with her JGN dance partner, Holly Dow, Lily came first in the U/12 duos intermediate section.

And, not only that, but the St John’s Academy pupil came third in the solo U/10 novice category and reached the finals of the crew category with her JGN team-mates.

The youngster has been proudly showing off her trophies to the doctors treating her at the Sick Children’s Hospital in Edinburgh where Lily has been undergoing more chemotherapy this week.

Lily, along with JGN owner Jackie Nicoll, carried the Scottish flag into the arena — and she received a standing ovation from the crowd of several thousand.

Lily’s mum, Jane, said: “It was a great experience which Lily thoroughly enjoyed.

“She is still undergoing chemotherapy but is doing really well and competing at the World Championships has really boosted her.”

Lily was diagnosed with stage four Ewing’s sarcoma in April.

Only 30 people i n the United Kingdom are diagnosed with it every year.

However, it hasn’t stopped bubbly, brave Lily from being as active as she can be and she has been well enough to attend school recently.

She was one of 54 JGN Dance Attic competitors who qualified for the Worlds.

The school’s Blazin’ Beatz came seventh in the U/18 crews category and the boys team who competed in the U/14 beginners class reached their final.
