Paul set for fifth contest

- By JAMES MASSON

PAUL Kean, the Dundee super-welterweight boxer, has his fifth professional contest in Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza hotel on September 15.

Paul, who has won all of his four contests so far, will box Londoner Jordan Grannum, who comes to the ring with a two wins five losses record.

Former Perth Railway Amateur Club boxer Sam Kynoch, now a leading figure in the professional boxing game, is guiding Paul’s career.

He said: “Grannum has been in with some good boxers and will provide an excellent test for Paul.

“He’s always held his own and is a tough customer.”

Paul is also scheduled to box in Paisley’s Lagoon Centre in October and December.

Sam went on: “We’re looking to get Paul into contention for a title by early next year.

“When that title chance comes up, we will look at Dundee as a venue.”

Paul is sparring twice a week with Willie Limond, the former WBU lightweight titleholder and ex-British and Commonwealth super lightweight champion.

He is learning a lot from Willie and Sam went on: “I’m very pleased with Paul’s progress.

“He’s one of the most improved boxers in my stable.

“He really puts the hard work in and is a great professional.

“Paul has a lot of ambition and, hopefully, he will achieve his ambitions.”
