Shock after biker killed in collision

- BY STEVEN RAE

A COMMUNITY leader has today spoken of her shock after a motorcyclist died after being involved in a collision with a minibus.

Emergency services were called to the A923 between Dundee and Coupar Angus yesterday after reports of a twovehicle smash just before 12.30pm.

The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched a trauma team to the crash scene, but did not take anyone to hospital.

Police Scotland confirmed that a man died at the scene following the collision.

A spokeswoman for the force said his next of kin had been informed.

Angus councillor Sheila Hands, whose Monifieth and Sidlaw ward includes the crash site, said: “This is a real tragedy.

“When I heard the road had been closed for a long time yesterday, I knew it wasn’t going to be good news.

“My heart was in my mouth and I remember thinking ‘Oh, no’.

“We do not know the full circumstances yet as to how the crash happened, but sadly it isn’t the first fatal accident we have had on the stretch of road.

“At this difficult time, my thoughts are with the family members of the deceased and with the other driver, whose life may have changed forever.”

Meanwhile, online tributes have poured in for the motorcyclist.

Kate Ramsay said: “So sad — condolences to the family.”

Rhiannon Meyer-Turner added: “My heart goes out to the family — it is so sad.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 12.22pm yesterday to attend a road traffic collision on the A923.

“We dispatched two ambulances and a trauma team to the scene. No one was taken to hospital.”

The road was closed for several hours yesterday while officers from Police Scotland carried out an investigation into the incident. The area’s school bus services were also affected.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the force.
