Forfar level in dramatic finale

-

JEANFIELD Swifts Ladies welcomed Scottish Women’s Premier League Two leaders Forfar Farmington to the McDiarmid Park Fieldturf in what promised to be a closelycontested match.

That turned out to be the case — and the game ended in a very dramatic fashion.

The first half saw a great physical battle in midfield and both sides created good chances.

The best chance for the home side came in 20 minutes when Eilidh McIntyre broke into the box but was tackled by a defender before she could get her shot away.

Jeanfield goalkeeper Bobby Cochran, who sustained a painful shoulder i njury at a corner, played on and kept the visitors at bay.

Her contribution included a good save from Danni McGinley when the ex-Jeanfield player was one-on-one with the keeper.

Jeanfield opened the scoring i n the 52nd minute when they took advantage of Farmington blunder.

Fiona McNicoll in the Forfar goal kicked out straight to Swifts captain Jade McDonald who delivered a beautiful lob over the goalkeeper and into the top corner of the net.

As the half wore on, Forfar tried to get an equaliser but failed to a beat a resolute Jeanfield defence.

The match had a very controversial end.

Deep into an already extended stoppage time, Farmington were awarded a free-kick on the halfway line that also saw Rhee Tweedie sent off for a second yellow.

It seemed harsh as she looked to have made no contact with the Forfar player.

The resultant ball played into the box wasn’t cleared by the Jeanfield defence far enough, allowing Laura Parsley to get a shot away.

It hit the bar and bounced down over the goal-line to give the visitors a 97th-minute equaliser.
