Dundee fans backing Randy to ‘come good’
DUNDEE fans have backed Dutch winger Randy Wolters to “come good” for the Dark Blues after he expressed feeling a bout of homesickness.
Since signing in the summer, it’s been a stop-start beginning to life at Dens Park for the 27-year-old with a hamstring problem keeping him out lately.
He’s back in training now and came off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Hibernian last Sunday.
However, in a regular column in his hometown newspaper Leidsch Dagblad called ‘Randy in Dundee’, Wolters said it’s taking time for him to settle in the city.
He said: “Dundee does not feel like home yet. Maybe it will never feel so, because I am too much attached to the Netherlands.
“This week I’m here for the first time on my own. Desireé is in the Netherlands for some appointments. I miss her. When she is here, I have more distraction. Now I’m really appointed to myself.
“It’s a relief that I’m recovered from my light hamstring injury.
“Fortunately it’s going the right way with me. I also know that I’m not yet at the level of what I can get.
“The trainer wants me to do many one-on-one actions, run and fly a lot. I’m not really a type like that.
“I’m more for nice and combination football. It is a very different game here. I’m having some trouble with that.
“Because of the internationals, I’m free for three days at the end of this week. Today I went back to Leiden. I’ve beenlooking forward to it, I have to say. Talking Dutch to everyone.”
On Facebook, Dees Lee Macfarlane and Arran Hill backed Wolters to be a success.
Lee said; “Keep the chin up Randy, things will come good. If you give 100% on and off the park you will be a Dens Park star.”
Arran added: “100% with Lee, things will come good for you. It takes time to adjust but keep the head down.”
Meanwhile, Dundee have snapped up Spanish left-back Jon Aurtenetxe on a short-term deal.
Despite cooling on a deal for the former Athletic Bilbao and Celta Vigo defender, Dark Blues boss Neil McCann has signed the Basque player on a contract until January.
Aurtenetxe left boyhood club Amorebieta, who play in the third tier of Spanish football, earlier in the week.
In six years at Bilbao, t he 25-year-old played 90 times, including two Copa Del Rey Finals and a Europa League Final.
