Tommy is happy with defenders

-

ST JOHNSTONE boss Tommy Wright is happy at the fact he has nine decent defenders.

Youngster Aaron Comrie made his first top-team start in the 1-1 away divide against Celtic last Saturday and performed admirably in the back four alongside Steven Anderson, Joe Shaughnessy and Brian Easton.

AndTommy knows he can also call upon l eft-back Scott Tanser and centrebacks Ally Gilchrist and Liam Gordon.

Richard Foster played in midfield against Celtic but is a natural right-back and another highly-rated centreback, Jason Kerr, is on loan at Queen of the South.

“I had no qualms about throwing in Aaron against Celtic,” said Tommy.

“He is a very good young prospect, who played his part well in a good showing against Celtic. I have every confidence in him.

“Ally Gilchrist has played in the Europa League this season and done well.

“Jason Kerr has been great with us and at Queen of the South, and is in the Scotland U/21 squad.

“Liam Gordon is only 21 and Scott Tanser is just 22, and they are also excellent prospects.

“Then there are the more experienced lads — Richard Foster, Steven Anderson, Joe Shaughnessy and Brian Easton — all good players.

“I’m more than happy with the defenders I have.”

Meanwhile, Saints’ midfielder Murray Davidson, who was carried off against Celtic with a bad head knock received in the first minute, is expected to be all right for the visit of Hibs a week on Saturday.

“Murray has a sore head and is a bit toothless but he is out of hospital and likely to be all right for the Hibs fixture,”Tommy went on.
