Management committee appointed at playgroup

-

AN Angus playgroup has appointed a management committee after being told it should not have been operating without one.

HM Inspectors returned to Chimes Playgroup in Forfar following a previous visit where the quality of management and leadership was labelled “weak”.

While conducting its pre-inspection checks, and through discussions with the manager in March, they identified that there was no committee in place.

The Chimes Playgroup Committee were the legal providers of the playgroup.

The inspection report published following the March visit stated since there was no provider in place “the service should not have been operating”. The manager said it had been difficult to find people to j oin the committee and inspectors asked her to speak to parents “as a matter of urgency” to try to form a committee “due to the seriousness of this”.

A further inspection letter has now been published in the wake of a follow-up visit and the playgroup has made “good progress” since March.

That being the case, there will be no more visits in connection with the initial inspection.

HM Inspector Barbara Daly said: “An appropriate management committee is now in place. Relevant office bearers are established, including a chairperson, secretary and treasurer.

“To date, two meetings have taken place with an annual general meeting scheduled in the near future. There are plans to review and refresh the constitution to ensure it fully reflects the current group.”
