Dundee Flower and Food Festival hailed a success
Between Friday and Sunday, nearly 20,000 people visited the park to enjoy a packed programme of events at the festival, which organisers say is now the biggest competitive horticultural show in Scotland.
Locals were able to take in cookery demonstrations from top chefs and live music.
CBeebies presenter Andy Day was also in attendance, performing his Dino Raps.
Councillor Anne Rendall, neighbourhood services convener at the city council, said the event was “fantastic”. She added: “The weather was great, which is good for bringing the crowds out.
“I thought that it was an excellent event. I just think it is a fantastic show for everyone.
“It’s exactly the right size, it isn’t too big. It is the right size for everyone to get around everything.
“The 20,000 figure was about right for the weekend — there were about 6,000 people on Friday and 7,500 on Saturday, with more there on Sunday.”
Scottish Masterchef star Gary Maclean joined fellow culinary experts Nick Nairn and Tony Singh — along with gardening guru Jim McColl — at the event.
Flower and Food Festival director Gary Robertson hailed the weekend as a huge success.
He said: “People return year-onyear and we are always trying to make it bigger and better.
“It is a privilege to basically be the show manager and continue to deliver for the public.”
People were able to access the park throughout the three days via Xplore Dundee’s 53 service, which ran every half-hour from 10am-5.30pm
Visitors were even given the chance to win a Honda Civic Type R in a competition organised by Claverhouse Rotary Club.
The event also saw a host of local food producers showcasing their products, with stalls and dancing also entertaining revellers.
