New bosses at chamber ‘could help jobs growth’
THE chief executive of Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce today said its three new directors could help boost jobs in the region.
Brett Davidge, the general manager of Apex Hotels, Susan McFadyen, a partner with Blackadders Solicitors in Dundee, and Rod Mountain, the lead for healthcare design and innovation with NHS Tayside, have been named as the newest non-executive directors of the board.
Alison Henderson, the chamber’s chief executive, said: “It’s great to welcome three new people of this calibre on board. I am really excited about what they will bring individually to the chamber.
“They will be champions for their own industries and make sure Dundee businesses remain relevant in terms of these industries. This will make sure for example, with Brett’s involvement, we have the best opportunities locally in the hospitality sector.
“And that is at a time when hospitality is one of the sectors which continues to grow i n Dundee, as the Waterfront development continues to progress and we look to boost the number of jobs in that sector.”
Alison added: “Rod’s real speciality is design innovation and service design. He’s been very much involved in the redesign of services in the NHS.
“For the business community, that’s about the customer journey.
“In Dundee, something like the V&A is hugely focused on service design as interaction between the museum and its customers is paramount. It’s such a huge thing for Dundee.
“With Susan getting on board, we have someone with an expertise in corporate law, which is vital for our members.
“The professional services sector is a key employer in Dundee and Angus and we will always look to grow that industry and employ more people.”
The chamber now has more than 500 members, who between them employ more than 35,000 people.
Mr Davidge said: “We’re committed to not only helping chamber members and their employees flourish but also to promoting Dundee and Angus as a world-class destination in order to attract further business and create even more opportunities for people throughout the region.
“I’m looking forward to getting started and to making a difference for our members.”
