Capitals come out on top

-

AT Murrayfield last night, Dundee Stars iced new signing Jimmy Jensen against Edinburgh Capitals.

They took the lead after two minutes when Emerson Hrynyk scored with a shot from halfway.

The visitors made it 2-0 on 12 minutes after Taylor Dickin netted from in front of goal.

Dundee replaced Travis Fullerton with Craig Holland in the nets for the start of the middle session.

Stars had the better of the second stanza but failed to add to their lead.

Capitals got back into the game early in the second period when Mike Cazzola fired home.

There was a break in play during the period as the rink staff repaired a broken plexi-glass.

Minutes after the restart, Jensen almost capped his debut with a goal only to see his shot come back off the pipes.

Dundee went on the powerplay when Edinburgh were penalised for too many men on the ice.

However, the home side broke free to level the game at 2-2 with a shorthanded goal.

There was no further scoring in the extra period but Capitals came out on top in the penalty shootout to take the win.

It was a good workout and coach Omar Pacha will be satisfied with his team’s performances, especially in the win against Belfast on Saturday, to get their competitive matches off to a flying start.

FIFE Flyers played Danish side Herlev Eagles over two games in Kirkcaldy and came out with mixed results. The Fifers won 3-1 on Saturday but suffered a 4-1 reverse last night in the Fife Ice Arena.
