Revealed: £26m plan for former multis site
A VISION for the future of one of Dundee’s bestknown housing sites can be revealed today.
Councillors will next week approve the start of work on a £26 million affordable homes development on the site of the former Derby Street multis.
And the team behind the project say it will bring back the spirit of “the original Hilltown”.
The development on the site of the Bucklemaker and Butterburn blocks which were demolished in 2013, will see 163 properties ranging from one and two-bedroom flats to fourbedroom townhouses built.
Councillor Kevin Cordell, Dundee City Council’s neighbourhood services convener, says the project is a “fantastic investment” for Dundee.
He said: “This is the continuing regeneration of the Hilltown area and as you can see it’s a massive investment.
“Once it’s complete, it will bring people back into the community and regenerate it, as well as the houses.
“We’ll get on site pretty soon. Obviously it’s been cleared for a wee while but it’s going to be good for the shops and the community.
“We’re looking at a year-and-ahalf before we have people in the properties and we just want to get cracking on with it.”
Mr Cordell added: “When you look at the figures we’re talking about here, it’s a fantastic investment for the city.
“It’s about bringing energyefficient homes that are fit for the 21st century.
“I think it’s really exciting to be in the Hilltown right now.
