Leah selected for Scots U/17s
JEANFIELD Ladies secured a fine 3-1 win over a skilful Hearts side on the McDiarmid Park Fieldturf.
The win takes Jeanfield into the top four of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Two for the first time in their history.
One of their stars was 17-year-old left-back Leah Fleming from Arbroath. She has been called up to the Scotland U/17 squad to face Slovenia away.
Jeanfield head coach Jason McCrindle said: “Leah being selected is great for her and reward for all her hard work and dedication.
“We have set Leah a challenge between now and the end of the season and Sunday was her best performance Jeanfield jersey.”
Leah has come through the 15s and 17s teams at Jeanfield and previously represented Scotland at 15s and 16s level.
The match was played at a fast pace early on and Jeanfield took the lead after 12 minutes when Ellie May Cowie bravely chased down a flick from Eilidh McIntyre and in a forced the keeper to bring her down. Laura Dunn coolly slotted the penalty home.
Ellie and Eilidh combined again to double t he lead five minutes after the break when Eilidh skipped past an opponent to hammer the ball home.
Ellie then rattled the bar from 25 yards.
Hearts pulled a goal back with 25 minutes remaining t hrough a header at the back post after a fine cross.
Jeanfield responded brilliantly by staying organised and restored their two-goal advantage in style.
Eilidh flicked a tempting pass in behind the full-back and Ellie tore after it, speeding away from two defenders to finish with a deft touch past the Hearts goalkeeper.
Jason added: “It was a great team performance.
“We were strong physically and dominant in possession.
“We have done well to get to fourth and are above sides who finished above us last year.
“Our goal now is to keep it that way.”
