Man denies attack on wheelchair user
A MAN is set to stand trial accused of headbutting a wheelchair user who was celebrating his birthday in Dundee.
Adam Reid, 21, denies assaulting James Stewart, who uses a wheelchair.
It is understood that the alleged incident took place following Mr Stewart’s birthday party at the Queen’s Hotel in the city’s Nethergate.
It is understood that following the celebration, party-goers attended an address in Alpin Road to carry on festivities.
The alleged assault is reported to have taken place at the Alpin Road property in the early hours of the morning of September 1.
One local, who asked not to be named, said: “I have lived here for a long time and you see much more police around here now. It used to be a really quiet area but not now.”
Another resident said he believed that police attendance in the area was on the rise.
He added: “It doesn’t surprise me — you see police up here on a weekly basis.
“It is a shame because it has always been a nice quiet area.
“When I moved here, you would never have expected to see police cars and incidents taking place that required them to attend. I don’t know what it is that has made things change like they have.”
Reid, whose address was given in court as Tom Morris Drive, St Andrews, is accused of assaulting Mr Stewart by striking him on the head with his own head.
Reid is further alleged to have pushed him on the body.
The alleged actions were said to have caused Mr Stewart injuries.
Trial date was set for December 20 with an intermediate diet on November 23.
Reid was bailed meantime.
