Man on assault to severe injury charge

A MAN has appeared in court following an alleged street brawl between two men in Charleston.

Emergency services were called to South Road, near to a block of flats, at about 11.30am on Friday following reports of a disturbance.

Steven Brian Fraser, 25, of Dundee, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on one charge of assault to severe injury. During a brief private appearance on petition, Fraser made no plea or declaration.

The case was continued for further examination and he was released on bail ahead of further court dates being set.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said inquiries into the incident were continuing. A second man had initially been charged with attempted murder in connection with the same incident.

However, he did not appear in relation to that charge and his case did not come to court.

There was a significant police turnout following Friday’s incident, with residents describing seeing up to 15 officers at the scene.

An area of pavement was cordoned off for several hours while forensics officers combed the area and carried out investigations.

Some flats were also blocked with locals having to show identification to gain access to their homes.
