Reward offer after theft of £4.5k van
A BUSINESSMAN says he’s offering a reward for information after his Transit van worth £4,500 was stolen.
Dave Mack, 70, says his vehicle was taken after he parked it up in Stobswell — near the Lidl supermarket — during the day.
He believes it may have been targeted because it contained a number of spare parts for other vans, which would make it attractive to thieves.
Dave, who runs the promotions company DM Concerts, told the Tele he has reported Friday’s theft, which happened around 2.30pm, to police.
He said: “I parked the van in North Erskine Street and went up Clepington Road for a bit then came back and noticed something was missing — it took a second to realise it was the van.
“I had the keys with me so they must have had another key or something to get in, because you can’t just start those things on their own.
“It was full of gear as well — other van parts, a bumper and a bonnet for a Ford Transit Connect.”
Dave added: “I want to make people aware in case they get anyone approaching them offering anything for sale, so they know that it has been stolen.
“I think they might have changed the number plates though to make it harder to find.
“The van is worth around £4,500 and I will be offering a reward for any information.
“The impact to the business is massive. The contents of the van alone are worth about £1,000.
“We have had vans stolen in the past and we were never able to get them back.
“I was away from the van for an hour at the very most.
“Hopefully, now an appeal is out, we might manage to get it back.”
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm it is making inquiries into the theft of a white Ford Transit van from North Erskine Street between 2pm and 2.30pm on Friday.
“When stolen, the van bore registration plates with the number SP10 VMV.
“We would ask anyone with any relevant information about this incident to call us on 101 or speak to any police officer. Our reference is CR/23541/17.”
