ROUND-UP ’Hill humble Hotspurs

Markie, McGregor and Man of the Match Pullar on mark

-

THE first trophy of the season in the Dundee Saturday Morning League saw FC Menzieshill beat Hilltown Hotspurs in the Adamson Cup Final.

Hilltown have won the season opener for the past three years but Menzieshill stopped their run at North End Park.

’Hill started the game brightly to race into a 2-0 lead. Blaine Markie finished well under pressure to put them a goal up in the opening 10 minutes before Barrie Pullar leapt like a salmon to head home a well-taken corner.

Paul Cooney struck back for Hilltown on the half-hour mark, though Cammy McGregor’s 25-yard curler into the top corner had the crowd in raptures and gave FC Menzieshill a 3-1 lead.

There wasn’t much in it in the second half, though both clubs squandered chances.

A goal in the l ast minute from Hilltown made for a tense finale but, all things considered, FC Menzieshill deserved the accolade and a second cup in two years.

Barrie Pullar was the Man of the Match, due reward for an outstanding performance.
