Purpose of university in question

AN event discussing the role of universities and higher education institutions and whether or not they are necessary in the modern world is to be held in Dundee.

The Abertay and College Union will host an open public forum on the purpose of universities next week.

A number of guest speakers will be on hand to l ead the discussion, which will be chaired by Abertay lecturer Dr Stuart Waiton.

P ro fe s s o rs Wa l t e r Humes of Aberdeen U n i v e r s i t y, T h o m a s D o ch e r t y o f Wa r w i ck University and Dennis Hayes of Derby University will attempt to answer questions on whether or not students are being pandered to, if academics are being restricted, and the overarching question — what is the point of a university?

The event, which will be held i n Room 2157 at Abertay University, is open to all members of t he public.

Free to attend, the discussion will start at 2pm on Wednesday.
