Universal Credit ‘flawed’

-

CONTROVERSIAL changes to the benefits system should be halted, a Fife MP has claimed.

Peter Grant, SNP representative for Glenrothes, has said the UK Government’s Universal Credit scheme is severely “flawed”, just months before it is introduced in Fife.

He said he was particularly concerned about the ability of Job Centre mechanisms to cope with the demand of inquiries they will receive when the changes are introduced in December.

Universal Credit will combine all benefits payments into one monthly deposit. The Department for Work and Pensions said budgeting advice and benefit advances would be available for claimants who needed extra help managing money.
