Kean in shape for Glasgow contest

-

DUNDEE boxer Paul Kean Jr. is ready to take on English fighter Jordan Grannum at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza tonight.

Boxing in the superwelterweight division, Paul Jr. is undefeated in his four professional bouts to date — and he is aiming for five wins in a row against Londoner Grannum.

Paul Jr., coached by his dad Paul Kean Sr. at Skyaxe Kickboxing Gym, goes into the fight with the backing of two new sponsors, fitness brand Muscle Xcess (Bodytone Warehouse) and construction company Metaltech UK.

A spokesperson for the sponsors said: “As l ocal businesses in Dundee, Wattie Milne and Harry Ogg think it is very important to give something back and help young athletes such as Paul to pursue their dreams.”

As the hours ticked down to the contest, Paul said: “I’m looking for testing fights and this is likely to be one.”

“I’m keen to step up and I’m very much looking forward to this evening.”

As well as being coached by his dad, Paul is being looked after by Craig Lusby and Gary Jacobs, the former British, Commonwealth and European welterweight titleholder. Gary also made an unsuccessful challenge to Pernell Whitaker for his WBC crown.

Paul is being backed by a strong travelling support tonight.

All being well, he will be back in the ring on October 18 with his next contest being pencilled in for December 16.
