Tayport joy after a storming finish

-

IN the Premier League, there was no shortage of action at The Canniepairt where Tayport beat Haddington 3-2.

The first chance of the game fell to the Fifers when they were awarded a penalty but Marc Ogg’s effort was saved. They did, however, go in at the break one ahead after Sergio Alvarez, with his first goal of the season, gave them the lead.

All that changed in the second half when a brace from Scott Moffat handed the advantage to the visitors.

But, in a storming finish, Daniel Sanchez levelled in 84 minutes and Gary Sutherland netted a dramatic winner in the final minute.

For the second week running, Downfield competed well but ended up losing.

There was little between the sides for the first 44 minutes but, just before the break, Conor Thomson slammed a free-kick into the net to give Musselburgh the lead.

The game changer came 10 minutes into the second half when Stephen McDonald knocked in a second and home keeper Darren Clarkson was sent off for protesting the ball hadn’t crossed the line.

However, the 10 men hit back in 71 minutes thanks to a spectacular 30-yard lob from Bryan Duell but it was to no avail as Ewan Ralton netted a third for the joint league leaders just on time.

There was another terrific result for St Andrews United with a 5-1 home win over Whitburn taking them up to joint third.

Scott Lawrie got a debut goal following his Friday move from Dundonald, Darryl Falconer and Paul Quinn both hit doubles.

There was no fairytale start for Kirrie Thistle co-bosses Chris Kettles and Ralph Brand, who saw their team lose 2-0 to Blackburn United at Westview.
