Appeal for son’s ashes

‘I have no idea where they are or what has happened’

A WOMAN has launched an emotional appeal to find her son’s ashes.

Gaynor Robertson, 48, believed the ashes of her son, Jonathan, were with her estranged ex-husband for the last eight years at his home in Arbroath.

But following his recent death, the Carnoustie woman was horrified to discover no trace of the distinctive urn containing the ashes when his house was being cleared.

Now, a devastated Gaynor is appealing for any information as to their whereabouts and whether or not they have been scattered.

Former Baldragon Academy pupil Jonathan died after a fall while playing at Baldovan House in 2002 at the age of just 13.

Gaynor says the news was causing her to relive her heartbreak all over again.

She said: “My ex-husband died recently and was not involved with me or my other son.

“He had the ashes, but I found out that when his brother was clearing the house a few weeks ago, they found absolutely no trace of the ashes.

“I have no idea where they are or what’s happened to them — I’m absolutely heartbroken.

“They were in a box with his name on it. It had an ice hockey goalkeeper on it, along with his name engraved so it’s quite distinctive.

“I never got over the death of my son, but it feels like I’m having to go through it all again.”

Both Dundee City Council and Angus Council have said the urn is not in their possession after the house was cleared.

Gaynor has taken to social media to share her appeal and hopes to receive closure on the whereabouts of the ashes sooner rather than later.

She added: “I’ve put something out online about it to see if someone has seen anything or knows anything about what’s happened.

“Jonathan was just the most beautiful boy inside and out.

“It’s just been a nightmare having to go through all of this again.

“Hopefully, I can find them, or just find out what’s happened to them.”
