Quinn available for Morton clash

- BY CALUM WOODGER

DUNDEE United defender Paul Quinn will return to the fold for Saturday’s Championship tie against Morton at Tannadice.

The 32-year-old centre-back came off in Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to Falkirk suffering from the pain of having a tooth taken out earlier in the week.

Quinn was disorientated from the strong painkillers he was taking, and Arabs boss Ray McKinnon took no chances, replacing him with William Edjenguele after just 10 minutes.

“He got a tooth out during the week,” Ray said.

“He had a real big abscess on Thursday and you’re not supposed to do anything for two days.

“He was full of co-codamol and things like that so he’s went and got himself disorientated.

“Whatever’s happened in the game we needed to take him right off.”

Ray was disappointed to have to take one of his starting centre-backs off so early but was pleased to be able to call on a quality replacement in Edjenguele.

Ray said: “At least we had a good replacement in William.

“There was great discipline about the team on Saturday.

“We had a couple of setbacks early with big Quinny going off but William responded well when he came in, so I’m pleased with that.

“It’s a nice platform to keep moving forward.”

Ray also revealed that Congolese-Dutch striker Patrick N’Koyi missed out at Falkirk due to a hamstring injury soon after hearing of a family bereavement.

The 27-year-old could return for the Morton tie with Ray seeking more attacking options to call on from the bench than he did at Falkirk.

“N’Koyi pulled his hamstring on Friday,” Ray said.

“That’s what’s ruled him out, but he’s also had some bad news with a family member dying as well.

“Pulling his hamstring was a blow because later i n the game we were missing someone to change it and we just had defensive players.

“We didn’t have enough really on the bench to switch things but that’ll pick up.

“We’ll keep moving forward, keep grinding it out and once we click in that final third and that confidence comes back then I’ll be really pleased.”

A win at home on Saturday could see United go top if Dunfermline and St Mirren drop points.
