THE Scottish SPCA is looking for volunteers to join its new Dundee Supporter Group.

The charity is hoping to raise funds for abused, abandoned and injured animals through arranging and taking part in various activities.

Local animal-lovers are being urged to come forward and sign up.

Sharon Meiklejohn, Scottish SPCA senior community fundraiser said: “We are looking for kind hearted people to be part of the exciting new Dundee Supporter Group to raise funds for the society throughout the year by arranging and taking part in various activities.

“These might include can collections, bag packing, fairs and more.

“It’s a great way to spend time with friends or meet new people. We’d really love to hear from anyone who would like to lend a hand to help the animals in desperate need of our care.

“Fundraising is a great way of helping Scotland’s animals and it also raises awareness of the charity in the local area.”

Last year was a busy one for the Dundee centre after new homes were found for nearly 600 animals.

The Scottish SPCA doesn’t receive any government or lottery funding therefore relies solely on the public to be able to continue its vital work rescuing and rehoming animals.

From dogs, cats and rabbits, to exotic pets, birds and equines, the Scottish SPCA has lots of animals looking for new homes and owners. The rehoming centre is open six days a week (closed Tuesday) from 10am-4pm.

Anyone interested in joining the new group is invited a to the meeting on October 7 at The Speckled Hen Farm and Coffee Shop at Newbigging Farm, Tealing.
