Dozens face action after cops’ driving crackdown
Officers target streets in North East of city in bid to improve safety
POLICE have revealed the results of a two-week road safety initiative carried out by officers in the North East of Dundee.
Officers based at Longhaugh Police Station carried out a crackdown following complaints from residents about speeding and other driving offences.
They targeted areas such as Mill o’ Mains, Douglas, Mid Craigie, Broughty Ferry, Fintry and Whitfield.
Officers were sent out on patrol on streets including Fountainbleau Drive, Kingsway, Berwick Drive, Balgillo Road, Dundee Road, Fintry Road, Fintry Drive, Balbeggie Street, King Street, Monifieth Road, Dalhousie Road, Balunie Avenue, Brook Street, Court Street, Milton of Craigie Road, Longhaugh Road, William Fitzgerald Way, Craigie Drive, Strathearn Road, Balerno Street, Strips of Craigie Road, Pitkerro Road and Forthill Road.
Police Scotland said that as a result of the crackdown, three people were reported to the procurator fiscal for having no insurance. A further 21 people were issued with conditional offers for offences such as using a mobile phone whilst driving, speeding offences, not obeying red lights and having no MOT. And 38 people were issued with warnings, with one person was given an antisocial behaviour warning. Inspector Chris Boath said: “I would like to thank members of the public who took the time to raise concerns about road safety on a number of roads in Dundee. “We took their suggestions on board and thanks to the twoweek campaign we were able to identify and detect those committing offences and deal with them accordingly. “Anyone who has any concerns in the manner in which someone is driving or road safety should report it to Tayside Division on 101.” The activity came off the back of a further speeding crackdown linked to a national campaign.
