‘We want our pavilion’
The facility — which hosted a variety of clubs and activities for all ages — was destroyed in a blaze in July.
The council was “left with no viable option” but to tear down the remains of the building later that month after it sustained “extreme structural” damage.
The Mill o’ Mains community has rallied round to keep some summer activities going.
The authority has said it will look to rehouse clubs and groups that have been left without accommodation following the incident, but it’s not yet clear if a permanent centre will be re-built.
Saturday’s day of action took place overnight and saw families camp out at the old site of the centre. said: “We are hoping to get a new building but the city council is not making it easy.”
Mill o’ Mains resident Allan Mann said the location of the old pavilion was a central spot and easy to get to.
He said: “The council is suggesting silly places to build the pavilion in the scheme.
“It’s just worrying community.
“The council has not given us any reassurance.”
An investigation into the cause of the blaze continues, but locals believe the fire was started deliberately.
A spokeswoman for the city council said: “The council has put arrangements in place so that programmed activities from the pavilion are able to continue, and have offered to make some adaptations to help with service delivery.
“We are working hard to find alternative accommodation and will be keeping in touch with the community to advise them of developments.”
