ROUND-UP Sarah’s to the four as Grove hit goal trail

IN hockey’s Ladies National League Division One on Saturday, GroveMenzi­eshill had a 7-1 win over Kelburne at DISC.

The win included four goals by Sarah Jamieson in a game where the “Grovies” were never greatly troubled.

Their other scorers were Sue Hamilton, Jenny Walls and Katie Robertson, while Rachael Ewing-Day scored for Kelburne. Grove now sit in third place. MJV Dundee Wanderers ladies l ost 2-1 to Western Wildcats despite opening the scoring through Charlotte Watson.

Ten minutes before halftime, Lucy MacArthur levelled the score and, after dominating in the second half, Wildcats’ Luce Findlay netted the winner.

Edinburgh University beat Clydesdale Western 7-0 and that takes the students to the top of the table.

Sophie Maunder grabbed a hat-trick.

Other Division One scores — Glasgow High Kelvinside 1 Watsonians 3, Hillhead 1 Grange Edinburgh 3.

Unfortunat­ely, the Scottish Hockey score recording system is still not working with only a handful of results available.

In the ladies Division Two Inverleith beat Fjordhus Reivers 4-3. Both St Andrews University and Dundee University scores are unknown

In the ladies Championsh­ip Division One, GroveMenzi­eshill II had a 5-4 win over Edinburgh University III and, in Championsh­ip Two, Perthshire had a 6-0 win over Erskine SM II, with three goals in each half, while Kinross HC beat Dundee Uni II 8-3.

Midland Ladies League scores — Division 1 — Madras 7 Perthshire II 1, Kinross II 3 St Andrews University III 7, Blairgowri­e 3 Dundee Uni III 0, Brechin 1 Dundee Wanderers II 0.

Division Two — St Andrews University V 1 Perthshire III 4, Stirling Uni II 4 St Andrews Uni IV 3, Grove III 11 Dundee Uni IV 0, Monarchs 5 Madras II (Monarchs scorers Diane Pedgrift (4) and Eilidh Mackenzie).

There were no Men’s Midland Leagues games and virtually no Men’s National League games scheduled at the weekend due to the boys interdistr­ict competitio­ns in which East District won at both U/16 and U/18 levels, with West the runners-up.

Midland teams, however, can take consolatio­n from wins over both North and Highland.

This coming weekend there is a full fixture list for Men’s Midland League teams with Division One on Saturday and Division Two on Sunday.

The odd teams without games are Wanderers III, in Division 1, and Madras II in Division Two.

Midland Ladies move on to the MHU League Cup on Saturday in a three-pool first round. Madras II received a bye. The games are:

Pool A — Wanderers II v Grove III, Kinross II v St Andrews Uni III.

Pool B — Monarchs v Brechin, Blairgowri­e v Perthshire III.

Pool C — Stirling Uni II v St Andrews Uni IV, Perthshire II v Madras.

This weekend it is the turn of the l adies U/16 and U/18 inter-district games.

There is no Ladies National League Division One games and only one in Division Two.

In the Championsh­ip Leagues, of the two games scheduled, there is Midland interest in the Division Two meeting of Dundee Uni II v St Andrews Uni II at the Riverside Sports Ground.

In the Men’s National Leagues (Division One), Grove Menzieshil­l host Kelburne at DISC at 4pm and that is a game not to miss.

For MJV Dundee Wanderers, there is a trip to Auchenhowi­e to play Western Wildcats.

That will be a hard game for the Dundee side though not beyond them, if on form.

Other games on Saturday in the division are Uddingston v Inverleith, Hillhead v Grange, Edinburgh University v Clydesdale.

On Sunday it’s Hillhead v Kelburne, Uddingston v Grove Menzieshil­l (at Uddingston).

Division Two includes Harris FP v Granite City Wanderers (DISC 11.30am) and Perthshire v Stepps at 1.30pm at Kilgraston School.

Division Three sees FMGM Monarchs visit Aberdeen University.

Regional Division One includes Grove Menzieshil­l II v Hillhead II, while Division Two includes Dundee Wanderers II visit Falkirk and Linlithgow II.

As yet there is no informatio­n regarding the second round of the five National Cup or the Plate draws — all scheduled for October 22.
