Ronnie, 85, scores second hole-in-one
A GOLFER has carded his second hole-in-one at the grand old age of 85 — despite facing a series of health problems.
Ronnie Ingram, a retired fine art printer who lives in Maryfield, aced the par three 16th on the Ashludie Course in Monifeith on Thursday.
It is the second time he has managed a hole-in-one — and amazingly his first came at the exact same spot 10 years ago.
The achievement is even more impressive due to Ronnie having had a difficult year after suffering from a stroke last October.
He has also had replacements.
That has not stopped him getting up-and-about though as his daughter Audrey, 44, an additional support needs assistant at Craigie High School, told the Tele.
She said: “My dad is an incredibly keen golfer.
“He has been a member of Grange Golf Club in Monifeith for 68 years.
“He watches golf constantly on the TV — he absolutely loves it. two knee
“He is really into his bowling as well.
“For 85 years old he is very, very active and is always keeping himself busy.”
Ronnie is a father of two and a grandfather of six — and he is more than happy to pass on his golfing knowledge to the younger members of the family.
Audrey said; “He takes some of the older grandchildren out on to the course with him.
“My son Donnell was out on the course with him a few weeks ago, it is a shame he wasn’t with him when he got his hole-in-one.”
Although not usually one to brag, Audrey said Ronnie is ‘telling absolutely everyone’.
Audrey said Ronnie had called her to tell her about his achievement. She said: “Dad told me I wasn’t going to believe what he had managed to do on the course.
“I am so chuffed for him — we all are. It is amazing what he is managing to do considering all the health issues he has had. He is definitely the family favourite anyway.”
In the 1970s Ronnie played alongside professional golfer Neil Coles in a Pro Am event at Royal Troon. He was gifted a shield at the event, which he still has.
Although he was paired with the Englishman, Audrey told the tele that it was Spanish golfing legend Seve Ballesteros who was Ronnie’s favourite.
