Case of deja vu as Craigie go through

- BY JUNICUS

THEY say lightning doesn’t strike twice — but East Craigie disproved that when they beat Lochee United on penalties to knock them out of the GA Cup for the second season running.

It was a year to the day when they last met and Saturday’s tie at Whitton Park was a replica of the clash a year ago.

It also ended at 2-2 after 90 minutes with the Shipbuilders again holding their nerve to win the penalty shootout.

Craigie took the lead through a penalty converted by Nik Mann. Greg Kirk then equalised 10 minutes later.

Reece Ritchie fired the Bluebells ahead on the hour mark but a superb equaliser from Sean Reekie with 10 minutes to go took it to penalties. Once again it was the Shipbuilders who held their nerve to go on and win the shootout 6-5.

North End made short work of Violet, hammering the Glenesk side 4-0.

Ross Lunan’s team quickly took control with a goal from Ryan Hunter.

The Pansies never threatened and Ryan Rigden hit them with another two goals. Kieran Sturrock was also on target.

In the Forfar derby, Albion lost 5-0 to visitors West End.

Matt Reynolds and Andy Wells hit doubles for the Super League outfit with Callum Petrie getting the fifth.

In the Super League, Broughty Athletic were in rampant form at Carnoustie.

The Gowfers paid the price for poor defending.

Jamie Winter had the Fed two up in 28 minutes. Kevin Milne stabbed in a third on the hour mark and Graham Hay made it four in 68 minutes.

The Gowfers then pulled two back through a Sam Simpson penalty and an own goal from Hay but Milne then scored another two to complete his hat-trick.

Broughty defender Drew Fleming is up for sale. Interested parties should contact Jim Finlayson on 07887 966741.

Jeanfield won 3-0 at home to nine man Sauchie.

Rhys Davies (pen.), Gary Fergus and Jamie Reid scored and Sauchie’s Brian Morgan and Darren Cummins were red carded.
