Charity concert in aid of MND Scotland

-

DUNDEE Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra is staging a special charity concert in aid of MND Scotland.

The concert is being held at the Caird Hall on October 29 in memory of locallyrenowned playwright, actor and director Malcolm Dowie.

Malcolm lived with motor neurone disease for three years before he died in December 2016.

The concert is set to include an “eclectic mix of music”. The first half will feature music by Gilbert and Sullivan and the second half will showcase “The Queen Symphony” by Tolga Kashif.

The chorus and orchestra’s conductor Don Grieve said: “The proceeds from this year’s concert are going to MND Scotland and we hope the music of Gilbert and Sullivan and the Queen Symphony, featuring the wonderful melodies of Freddie Mercury, will entice a large audience to support this wonderful cause.

“We normally have about 100 singers in the choir and about 60 players in the orchestra so hopefully we will make a joyful sound.”

Don added: “The concert will be dedicated to the memory of Malcolm Dowie.

“He always remained positive and worked tirelessly to raise awareness of MND.

“He was dedicated to his work at school and in the theatre.

“Everyone who knew him knew of his passion and his infectious laugh.”

Iain McWhirter, MND Scotland’s head of fundraising and volunteering, said: “I want to thank Don and all the members of the Dundee Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra for making the time and effort to help support MND Scotland with this brilliant concert in memory of Malcolm Dowie.

“I want to wish them all the best for the charity concert.

“Team MND Scotland will be cheering them on.”
